Pod, the UK’s largest EV charging services provider and a subsidiary of EDF, has acquired EO Charging (“EO”), a specialist provider of EV fleet charging and end-to-end depot charging software solutions, significantly expanding Pod’s commercial fleet and energy management capabilities. IMPROVED supported Pod with strategic advisory services.
Founded in 2014, EO Charging provides specialist depot charging software and technologies designed to help fleet operators manage charging performance, optimise energy usage and has been supporting large-scale fleet electrification for customers including Amazon, DHL and Tesco. With over 17 years of experience and a leading position across home, workplace and public charging, Pod will combine EO’s depot platform with its own smart charging and flexibility capabilities, and, alongside the EDF Group, deliver an integrated proposition spanning depot software, energy supply, smart energy management, and flexibility trading for UK fleet operators.
The transaction reflects a broader market shift as fleet electrification emerges as one of the fastest-growing segments of the EV transition, propelled by regulatory tailwinds and widening cost advantages over ICE vehicles. With constrained grid capacity and lengthy connection times now the binding constraints, we see fleet operators prioritising platforms that maximise charger density, provide reliable charger operations, optimise depot energy use, and unlock flexibility value from overnight charging. In line with the broader EV market dynamics, we expect continued consolidation in the fleet electrification segment as strategics seek to expand their position across the fleet value chain, with commercially proven platforms attracting the strongest interest.
